2/28/2003 Chuck Christ's famous 1960 Saab 93F was recently highlighted (again!) in an internationally recognized vintage motorsports publication. The January 2003 issue of Vintage Racecar Journal & Market Report included a pictorial stemming from the SVRA’s annual fall-time event affectionately called the Blue/Gray Challenge. Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia hosts the event, which was held October 3-6 this past year. As seen below in a scan from the referenced Journal, Chuck’s beautifully restored Saab garnered a prominent position in the composition. The reference to the photo reads "The 1959 Saab of Charles Christ," although the car is based on a 1960 chassis. For those readers unfamiliar with Summit Point Raceway, the photo appears to have been taken in "The Chute"," or Turn 4, of this 2-mile track. An embankment on the course’s right provides this unusual, elevated perspective of the passing cars. Its impossible to distinguish from the scan, but the driver of the car captured in the photo isn’t Chuck –- its, in fact, fellow VSRG member Steve Church, who was grateful to co-drive Chuck’s car in the event that day. Steve has since sent his apologies to Chuck, but he’ll take the exposure any way he can get it! Vintage Racecar Journal & Market Report is a monthly publication that contains a unique and special combination of information and features. Examples of its content include: articles from renowned authors; interviews with famous and important personalities in the world of vintage racing; and, tech tips and articles devoted to helping owners get the maximum enjoyment from their cars.
